THE BENEFITS OF VITAMIN E
Vitamin E is found naturally in many of the foods we eat. It is also made
and sold in synthetic form as a health supplement. The natural and
synthetic forms of vitamin E benefit the body in many ways.
A protective shield between cells and roaming carcinogens in the body is
one of the benefits of Vitamin E. These carcinogens are often refereed to
as free radicals and they are believed to cause heart disease and cancers
such as bladder, prostate, and some breast cancers. Vitamin E interferes
with free radicals adhering themselves to cells which is needed for
disease and cancer growth, thus offering a shield of protection from these
for those with a sufficient amount of vitamin E in the body. Studies show
that in order for the body to benefit from the full shielding qualities of
vitamin E, it needs at least 15milligrams of Vitamin E every day.
Cell regenerating agent is another of the benefits of Vitamin E. The body
uses Vitamin E to assist in the regenerating of important cells such as
those involving DNA, cell repair, and metabolic life functioning systems
of the body.
Early and promising studies are strongly suggesting that another of the
benefits of Vitamin E may be in the delaying or bypassing entirely in some
cases of the development of cataracts in the eyes. A cataract is a
condition that forms a cloudy film substance over the lens of the eye,
distorting and diminishing vision and depth perception. Vitamin E may also
guard against or slow the progress in development of other serious ocular
disorders such as macular degeneration. However more studies need to be
done before being added to the growing list of benefits of Vitamin E.
To maintain the protective qualities of Vitamin E in the body against the
free radicals that cause disease and cancers, it is suggested that teens
and adults feed the body 15milligrams of Vitamin E daily. It is safe to
increase the suggested daily amount of vitamin E to 1000miligrams a day.
People are cautioned against going beyond 1000miligrams of vitamin E each
day however because it is believed that the body can not digest, use, and
benefit from the protective qualities of Vitamin E in amounts higher than
1000miligrams a day.
You can easily feed your body the suggested 15milligrams of Vitamin E it
needs to protect you from disease and cancer every day by eating foods
that are high in vitamin E. Good choices include leafy, green vegetables,
nuts, oils made from vegetables, and cereals fortified with vitamin E.
Vitamin E supplements which are available in liquid, pill, and other forms
and sold in health, drug, and grocery stores can be used to feed the body
greater amounts of vitamin E. There are conditions such as intestinal
disorders and other diseases that often block the body from being able to
fully extract and absorb vitamin E from foods and in those cases, vitamin
E supplements become even more important. Vitamin E supplements inject
this nutrient directly into the body without the body having to exhaust
its energy reserves which are in short supply with chronic conditions,
trying to extract vitamin E from foods. This leaves the body with more
energy to work on the absorption of this valuable nutrient. More energy
helps the body to better absorb and retain more amounts of the vitamin E
that can be lost by those suffering from intestinal and other diseases.
